Introducing the Petkit Pura X Self-Cleaning Litter Bin
The Petkit Pura X litter box offers a wide range of features, including an app that provides real-time notifications about your cat’s activity and weight, multiple sensors for maximum responsiveness and safety, and a quiet and efficient Clean spinning globe.
This self-cleaning litter box promises to outperform the Litter-Robot III, our favorite automatic litter box right now.and for $599, you are right to expect many. But is Pura X worth the money it says?
After weeks of hands-on testing, we’ve concluded that the Petkit Pura X excels in all key areas and stands above the rest in terms of activity monitoring and reporting. It’s not perfect though, and it does have some flaws that could be deal breakers for most cat parents.
why trust us
Our Content Director, Mallory Crusta, tested the Petkit Pura X litter box with her two cats, Wessie and Forest, over a period of several weeks. Here you’ll find an overview of her experience and everything you need to know about this automatic litter box so you can make your own decision.
Specification
The Petkit Pura X Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box is a cube-shaped device that measures 19 x 21 x 25 inches. Bin measures 18 x 16 inches inside with an 8.6 inch opening and opens 12 inches from the floor.
The Pura X also has a weight sensor with readout so you can track your cat’s weight, all integrated with the Petkit Pura X app. Using the app, you can control cycles, track activity, and many other features of this type of litter box.
How does the Petkit Pura X litter box work?

Petkit Pura X is running a cycle – look at the display that shows the unit is in the middle of a cleaning cycle.
The Petkit Pura X Litter Box cleans your cat’s waste while monitoring their health. It has thermal sensor, infrared sensor, weight sensor, anti-pinch infrared sensor, intelligent detection, remote alarm and accident protection system. Unlike other automated litter boxes that only use Wi-Fi technology, the Pura X uses a multi-sensor system to detect cats and can cycle automatically.
The Pura X also has a weight sensor display with readout so you can keep track of your cat’s weight, all integrated with the Petkit Pura X app. The app has all the features you’d expect from an automated litter app, including remote cycling, activity tracking, and various cycle adjustments.
Still, it provides more in-depth information about how long and how much your cat spends in the litter box than other automatic litter boxes. It makes it easy to distinguish each user in a multi-cat household by allowing you to identify each cat by weight.
You can also control most functions from the trash can display itself if the app is unavailable. It also provides a log of your cat’s litter box activity.
how to set
When you open the box, you get a power cord, adapter, deodorant, trash bag, mat, and the device itself. Comes with an easy installation guide that shows you where to add liquid deodorant if you want to use it. Then attach the globe and add litter of your choice.
The liner should be placed in the drawer, which can then be slid into the bottom of the unit, and the mat should be placed in the opening of the unit. Place the device in the desired location and plug it in.
what kind of cat litter does it use
The Petkit Pura X Litter Box can be used with any type of litter, but they offer their own litter, which is a blend of soy and clay. Any caked-on crap will work, though.
love cats

The Petkit Pura X isn’t a particularly cat-friendly contraption, with a small entrance a foot off the ground.
Designed for cats under 18 pounds, the Pura X has multiple sensors, including one dedicated to tracking when your cat is in and out of the litter box. This allows Pura X to determine when and if a cleaning cycle is required.
The Pura X does have cat safety features that activate when your cat steps onto the included mat. It senses your cat and stops during the cleaning cycle. If your cat manages to get into the litter box without using the mat, it will also sense his presence and stop.
odor control
Pura X has a built-in deodorizing spray that neutralizes bad odors with a fine mist after each cleaning cycle. You can turn this off if you’re not interested in the smell of artificial fragrances.
In testing the Petkit Pura X litter box, we found that its design worked reasonably well, but it did leave some small clumps behind. During the cleaning cycle, the interior of the Pura X rotates, waste passes through the grate, and used parts go into the dustbin.
Scatter control
Litter can be a problem, our cats kick litter into crevices at openings. To clean it we had to reach in and clear it from under the globe and try to get it out of all the crevices.
cleaning and maintenance

The Petkit Pura X waste drawer fills up in no time.
The Pura X has a relatively small litter box that is filled at least once a week with one cat. The Pura X will cycle automatically after a minute or two, but it can be delayed from 1 to 60 minutes. The cleaning function itself is similar to its competitors. The inner sphere rotates to sift clean trash into the storage chamber while separating clumps and waste into the waste chamber.
When emptying the litter box, you may need a week if a cat is your only litter box. The trash can itself is a drawer at the bottom of the box, not very big compared to other automatic trash cans.
As far as cleaning the litter box itself is concerned, the process can be quite a hassle, as regular cleaning requires complete disassembly.
use the application
The Petkit app allows you to control your period, track activity and more. It also allows you to receive status reports at any time of the day.
Multiple sensors also allow you to monitor your cat’s weight and how long the cat is in the box. You can even set up multiple profiles if you have multiple cats in the house.
How much does the Petkit Pura X litter box cost?
The Petkit Pura X Litter Box sells for $599.00 And with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 1-year warranty. The Petkit Pura X Litter Box is available on their website, prices may vary slightly depending on where you live.
Our experience with the Petkit Pura X litter box

With an entry height of less than 8 inches, the Petkit Pura X provides very little entry space for cats.
After trying out the Petkit Pura X for a few weeks and evaluating its sensor performance, cleaning cycle capabilities, and cat-friendliness, we determined that this litter box performs well, cleans relatively efficiently, and doesn’t cause problems in too many ways.
Our cats were a little hesitant to use the Petkit Pura X litter box due to the size of the opening, interior dimensions, and the height of the opening from the floor. They eventually got used to it, but chose to do their business near the opening, which caused trash to leak out the front and stick to the lining.
When we first received the Petkit Pura X litter box there was an error with the weight sensor and when we contacted them they referred us to their email support. After many email exchanges, they did send a replacement unit. However, their customer reviews show that many dissatisfied customers did not have that great experience.
Is the Petkit Pura X litter box worth buying?
Overall, the Petkit Pura X litter box works fairly solidly and does what it’s supposed to do, but its performance leaves something to be desired. In general, we found the Petkit Pura X Litter Box to be less impressive than its closest competitor, the Litter-Robot.

It does have some features that other automatic litter boxes don’t. With regard to the weight sensor, you can monitor your cats through the app available for several cattery.
That being said, there are a few things about this litter box that aren’t particularly cat-friendly.
First, the cat-friendliness of the unit should be rethought. This litter box is not suitable for larger cats, and it is 12 inches off the ground, which makes it difficult for some cats to get in. Also, adding some kind of lip at the entry and sealing the gaps would clean more effectively.
The trash waste tray fills up quickly and can be made a little bigger to allow for longer time between emptying. The grates in the sieve are rather large and the bottom is not connected to the inside of the sphere. This allows smaller clumps to end up in the waste tray.
We don’t completely dislike the Petkit Pura X Litter Box, but we don’t think it’s worth the $599-plus price tag, even with the added value of the Petkit app. It works reasonably well, but it doesn’t have the cat-friendliness that its competitors might offer. Also, the company’s customer service department needs some work.

I am broadly interested in how human activities influence the ability of wildlife to persist in the modified environments that we create.
Specifically, my research investigates how the configuration and composition of landscapes influence the movement and population dynamics of forest birds. Both natural and human-derived fragmenting of habitat can influence where birds settle, how they access the resources they need to survive and reproduce, and these factors in turn affect population demographics. Most recently, I have been studying the ability of individuals to move through and utilize forested areas which have been modified through timber harvest as they seek out resources for the breeding and postfledging phases. As well I am working in collaboration with Parks Canada scientists to examine in the influence of high density moose populations on forest bird communities in Gros Morne National Park. Many of my projects are conducted in collaboration or consultation with representatives of industry and government agencies, seeking to improve the management and sustainability of natural resource extraction.
