About MAC
Based in Bavaria, Germany, MAC’s is a brand of canned cat food for cats with food allergies and sensitivities. All of their recipes are gluten and grain free, and free of artificial colours, flavors and preservatives. MAC’s also states that their recipes are made from “the finest heart, liver or lung slices and contain no bone meal or formed meat”.
Unfortunately, that’s all we’ve been able to find out about the brand. We couldn’t find a branded website for MAC, and there are limited independent reviews there. The most information we could find was on ZooPlus.
Procurement and Manufacturing
MAC’s cat food is made in Germany, and the company appears to be based in Bavaria, but we were unable to find any specific information on where or how the product was manufactured. According to information on ZooPlus, MAC is 70% meat and free of animal and bone meal as well as pre-formed meat.
We were unable to find specific information on the sourcing of MAC ingredients. Most of their formulas seem to contain a combination of fresh and organ meats as well as some animal by-products and synthetic supplements.
recall history
Our research did not identify any recalls of MAC cat food products.
What cat food does Mac’s offer?
MAC’s offers a limited selection of canned cat foods, including proteins such as chicken, beef, veal, turkey, salmon and duck. Their products are sold individually or in multi-packs, with options to wrap them in jelly and ragu. They also have a line of single protein recipes for cats with food allergies.
What do customers think of Mac’s cat food?
Not only have we had a lot of trouble finding specific information about MAC and its products, but we’ve also had some difficulty finding customer reviews. Given that MAC’s is a German company, this isn’t particularly surprising.
In the reviews we found (mostly on ZooPlus), we felt that customers were satisfied with the quality of the food and its high protein content. There were some questions about ingredients like bananas and cranberries, and one comment about the odd smell, but most of the comments we saw were positive.
Let’s take a look at some reviews of some of the most popular recipes from MAC.
positive comments
“It’s a premium quality food with varying amounts of meat in each bag and without the ingredients and additives that most other brands market and sell. The meat content is good because it includes meat plus heart, liver, stomach and Neck, which provides a wider, more natural source of animal meat protein. MAC offers a great choice for variation and variety as Thrive Complete.” – Nta16 Review of Cat Multipack for MAC
“My cats love this, when you’re feeding 10 cats it’s hard to get such good meat at a reasonable price, of course my maine coons will eat felix all the time but it’s not good for them but they love this and The high meat content means I’m happy to feed it, although I’m a bit unsure why there are banana chunks in it.”– Andrea Abbott reviews MAC’s Cat Saver Pack
Bad review
“I used to buy MAC with beef and my cat loved it! But the last two months the meat in the can has been grey, smelly and has a lot of fat in it. From best wet food, MAC has become the best ever Worst s***e. What happened?”– Anna Pryzwecka reviews MAC’s Cat 6 x 200g

This canned food recipe marketed for kittens features turkey, beef and duck as its main proteins. You’ll find nutritious fresh muscle meats as well as turkey, beef and duck giblets. The only other ingredient (besides the mineral supplement) is carrots.
It’s unclear what makes this recipe kitten-specific. Compared to other recipes in the same multipack, this recipe was actually lower in fat than two of the two recipes that were similar in protein. ZooPlus does not provide calorie information for these products, so we cannot make comparisons.
Overall, this appears to be a mostly meat-based canned food, high in animal protein and fat, and very low in carbohydrates.

#3 Mac’s Vetcare Mono Sensitive Lamb Recipe Canned Cat Food
Buy on Zooplus
Similar to other recipes we’ve reviewed, this canned treat is made with a protein-rich blend of muscle and organ meats. The main difference is that it is a single protein recipe with lamb as a new protein source. This makes this formula an excellent choice for cats with food allergies or digestive sensitivities.
In addition to animal ingredients, this recipe contains only carrots and mineral supplements. Carrots are likely a whole food source of key vitamins, and they don’t add significantly to the overall carbohydrate content of the recipe.
Overall, this appears to be a mostly meat-based canned food, high in animal protein and fat, and very low in carbohydrates.

How much does MAC cat food cost?
Pricing for MAC cat food may vary depending on where you live, but a 6-pack of 400g cans seems to cost between €11 and €12. For a pack of 18 cans of 200g you will pay around 25 euros.
Overall, is cat food for Mac a good choice?
It’s hard to get a complete picture of MAC’s cat food brand, as it’s a Germany-based company and information online is limited.
However, based on the product information we’ve gathered on ZooPlus, MAC’s cat food appears to provide species-appropriate nutrition for cats. Their canned goods are high in animal protein from muscle and organ meats and extremely limited in carbohydrates, if any.
While we love the ingredients in MAC Cat recipes, we have no idea where those ingredients come from or how the product is made. If you live in Europe, you may have more information on MAC cat food, so take this advice with a grain of salt and do your own research.
Where can I buy cat food for Mac?
As a German cat food company, MAC’s seems to have limited availability in the UK, but it may be easier to find in other parts of Europe. ZooPlus seems to be the best place to find MAC cat food online.

I am broadly interested in how human activities influence the ability of wildlife to persist in the modified environments that we create.
Specifically, my research investigates how the configuration and composition of landscapes influence the movement and population dynamics of forest birds. Both natural and human-derived fragmenting of habitat can influence where birds settle, how they access the resources they need to survive and reproduce, and these factors in turn affect population demographics. Most recently, I have been studying the ability of individuals to move through and utilize forested areas which have been modified through timber harvest as they seek out resources for the breeding and postfledging phases. As well I am working in collaboration with Parks Canada scientists to examine in the influence of high density moose populations on forest bird communities in Gros Morne National Park. Many of my projects are conducted in collaboration or consultation with representatives of industry and government agencies, seeking to improve the management and sustainability of natural resource extraction.
