The Batman follows the common Batman mythos by having Thomas and Martha Wayne ‘s murders motivate Bruce to become the Dark Knight late on in life. Matt Reeves ‘ DC movie hones in on the detective side of the Caped Crusader excessively, which allows the Riddler ‘s plan and the mystery of who killed Bruce Wayne ‘s parents to slowly unfold. This besides gives The Batman an opportunity to present assorted electric potential explanations for what actually happened and leave it up to viewers to decide who they think murdered Thomas and Martha Wayne .
Thomas & Martha Wayne Murders: The Batman’s Conspiracy Explained
Since The Batman does n’t show how Thomas and Martha Wayne died, the details about what happened are still quite obscure. It is established that his parents were murdered 20 years anterior to the events of the movie, which is n’t a coincidence since The Riddler ‘s backstory tied them into his games. The Batman does reveal that Thomas and Martha Wayne were viewed as upstanding citizens of Gotham, with Thomas tied announcing plans to run for mayor. These dreams were n’t realized, as person killed Bruce Wayne ‘s parents before Thomas could take office .
Thomas and Martha Wayne ‘s murders are tied to their dark pasts based on The Batman ‘s conspiracy that Riddler reveals. The villain uncovers evidence that Martha Wayne took many secret visits to Arkham Asylum due to mental illness. The Waynes used their power and money to cover up these trips and preserve the estimate that they were a perfect family. however, a journalist named Edward Elliot finally found out the accuracy. He planned to publish his findings, but Thomas Wayne attempted to pay him off to keep Martha ‘s struggles a secret. When Elliot refused to cooperate with Thomas, Bruce ‘s don asked Gotham ‘s biggest crime godhead Carmine Falcone to help him out .
This is where The Batman ‘s mystery about who killed Thomas and Martha Wayne enters conspiracy theory territory. Alfred Pennyworth says that Thomas hired Falcone to convince Elliot to take the bribe and not to kill the diarist. however, Falcone says that Thomas knew what he was doing by asking the crime lord to take care of this publish. Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed shortly after Elliot ‘s mangle occurs. It is n’t known who killed Bruce Wayne ‘s parents or why, but The Batman does leave the door open for a few different possibilities .

Who Killed Bruce Wayne’s Parents In The Batman? Every Theory
Based on the events that unfold in The Batman, Carmine Falcone is the leading rival to have killed Bruce Wayne ‘s parents. The movie suggests he had the biggest motivation to kill Thomas and Martha Wayne. Alfred reveals that Thomas had plans to confess to the police about what actually happened to Edward Elliot and implicate Falcone in the murder. Batman ‘s trustworthy butler securely believes that the crime overlord is in some way creditworthy for killing Bruce ‘s parents. however, there is besides no concrete proof to support this theory and could be Alfred ‘s way of putting a convinced spin on the Wayne family bequest. If Carmine Falcone did kill Thomas and Martha Wayne himself or hire person to do the act, his death at the end of The Batman closes the doorway on a possible confession .
There is besides another Gotham crime lord who could ‘ve been behind the death of Bruce Wayne ‘s parents : Sal Maroni. The ill-famed gangster is n’t featured in The Batman ‘s shed, but he is mentioned multiple times. This is because Maroni was arrested as part of Gotham ‘s biggest drug broke in history. While he is believed to be behind bars for this, he could besides deserve to be locked up for killing Thomas and Martha Wayne. Sal Maroni was the one who corrupted Project Renewal into a mean for bribes, money wash, and other criminal acts. He could ‘ve seen the electric potential in Thomas Wayne ‘s idea to make himself even richer, giving him possible motivation to kill Bruce Wayne ‘s parents. It ‘s besides worth mentioning that Edward Elliot used to work for Maroni, which could mean the crime lord had an elaborate design to bring down the Waynes .

Another The Batman theory left open is that Thomas Wayne ‘s political rival killed him and Martha. The timing of their deaths coming right after Thomas made his mayoral campaign known is quite leery. Since Thomas and Martha Wayne were already so mighty in Gotham, the other mayoral candidates or Gotham ‘s current mayor would ‘ve felt threatened by this political move. The Batman makes it clear barely how corrupt the city and its leaders are, so it would n’t be surprising if the existing mayor or another candidate made a power playing period by eliminating their biggest contest. Depending on who Thomas Wayne ‘s rival was, this could be something that The Batman 2 can tied explore .
The Batman besides briefly presents the theory that a random hood could ‘ve been responsible for killing Bruce Wayne ‘s parents. Alfred mentions this as a possibility, as he states person desperate or having a bad day could ‘ve killed Thomas and Martha Wayne. This is more in line with what happens in the comics, but it besides leaves room for Matt Reeves to reveal that another Batman villain was responsible for altering Bruce Wayne ‘s life .

Who Killed Bruce Wayne’s Parents In The Comics
The comics have by and large made one man responsible for killing Bruce Wayne ‘s parents, a coarse criminal named Joe Chill. He is a nickel-and-dime mugger in the comics, who happens to select Thomas and Martha Wayne as his next victims. Joe Chill first appeared in Detective Comics # 33 in 1939 and was created by Bob Kane. Joe ‘s attempted mugging of the Wayne family comes as they leave a dramaturgy, but he killed Thomas and Martha after a fight result. He does n’t kill Bruce Wayne, as the young kid begins crying and calling out for help. Christopher Nolan ‘s Batman Begins used Joe Chill as the murderer, as did Zack Snyder ‘s Batman v Superman : dawn of Justice. It is placid possible that future projects in The Batman ‘s universe confirm that Joe Chill besides killed Thomas and Martha Wayne in this continuity .
Why The Batman Doesn’t Reveal The Killer’s Identity
It is unusual that The Batman would focus sol much meter on the importance of Thomas and Martha Wayne ‘s murders to alone not reveal the killer ‘s identity. however, this besides is n’t a question that was necessity to answer in the movie. Batman silent defeats Riddler and steps up to help Gotham without finding out more about his parents ‘ deaths. Matt Reeves ‘ film evening suggests just how crucial it is for Robert Pattinson ‘s Batman to not learn the truth. Bruce Wayne seems to accept that he does n’t need to know what truly happened to be Gotham ‘s defender. The Batman ‘s ending shows him realizing the revengeful nature that has consumed him after his parents ‘ deaths is n’t what the city needs. Gotham needs a symbol of promise and a better future, not a revengeful gargoyle focused on the past .
The Batman not revealing who killed Bruce Wayne ‘s parents could besides be tied to future plans. This will allow Batman to not only be a beacon of hope for Gotham, but it could besides allow Bruce Wayne to feel like he can get close to people again without having reverence of potentially losing them. The Batman 2 could then see Bruce and Alfred become less estrange, while Batman and Catwoman could even grow closer excessively. There is besides the hypothesis that the sequel or any of The Batman ‘s HBO Max spinoff shows could shine more light on what happened to Thomas and Martha Wayne. If that is function of the plan, then it makes sense for Matt Reeves to not restrict any future decisions by revealing excessively much in The Batman .
How The Batman 2 Could Reveal Who Killed Bruce Wayne’s Parents
There are two ways in which The Batman 2 could reveal the identity of the Waynes ‘ killers. The first base would be to confirm one of the aforesaid theories. The most obvious answer to who killed Martha and Thomas Wayne is Carmine Falcone. It ‘s possible that The Batman 2 could see the cap crusader falling deeper into the mystery of Thomas Wayne ‘s Renewal Project, in an try to uncover the facts behind who murdered his parents. It seems likely that their deaths had something to do with the Renewal fund, and villain Carmine Falcone had a huge hand in their dealings with Edward Elliot. however, since both Elliot and Falcone are deceased, Bruce Wayne would have to stumble upon this information from another source, possibly the Penguin. The other most probable rival is Sal Maroni, who had his hands deep in the Renewal Fund. The Batman sees Batman going to the Joker in Arkham, in a edit fit, for data. Batman could take another trip to prison to find Sal Maroni and force some answers out of the villain. After all, Maroni is a major player in the Batman universe, and The Batman 2 could bring the quality to life .

The lone other direction that The Batman 2 could reveal who killed Thomas and Martha Wayne is by bringing a new fictional character into the mix or by suggesting the Joker ‘s interest. In the comics, Bruce Wayne ‘s parents were killed by Joe Chill, who, like Maroni, is n’t shown in The Batman. The Batman 2 has the opportunity to introduce Chill into the new Batman universe and stay true to the comics. The early choice would be to lump the Joker into the mix. The Batman only offered a bleary glimpse of Barry Keoghan ‘s deform iteration of the Joker and the scene was deleted, most likely to avoid stealing focus from Paul Dano ‘s Riddler. In former iterations of Batman movies, such as Tim Burton ‘s 1989 authoritative Batman, the Joker has had some engagement in the Wayne murders. however, Keoghan ‘s Joker appears to be excessively unseasoned to have committed a murder 20 years prior, and pinning it on the Joker is an avenue that has previously been explored. Since Matt Reeves takes pride in differentiating his version of Batman from the respite of the DCEU, it ‘s improbable that he ‘ll take this road in The Batman 2. It ‘s unknown whether The Batman 2 will reveal who killed Martha and Thomas Wayne, as The Batman only fair opened up the mystery. however, there are plenty of opportunities for the sequel to unfurl far cognition .
I am broadly interested in how human activities influence the ability of wildlife to persist in the modified environments that we create.
Specifically, my research investigates how the configuration and composition of landscapes influence the movement and population dynamics of forest birds. Both natural and human-derived fragmenting of habitat can influence where birds settle, how they access the resources they need to survive and reproduce, and these factors in turn affect population demographics. Most recently, I have been studying the ability of individuals to move through and utilize forested areas which have been modified through timber harvest as they seek out resources for the breeding and postfledging phases. As well I am working in collaboration with Parks Canada scientists to examine in the influence of high density moose populations on forest bird communities in Gros Morne National Park. Many of my projects are conducted in collaboration or consultation with representatives of industry and government agencies, seeking to improve the management and sustainability of natural resource extraction.
