A well-fed horse will often develop a “hay belly.” This is a sign of normal gas production rather than fat. Horses bloat a lot because they produce a lot of gas! I don’t know about you, but horses are big enough animals that I don’t want to be around when they fart.
A funny video of a horse behaving strangely posted online by his family has gone viral. As described by his person, the video shows Gelulaquatmasvin “walking through the woods with the dog, kicking trees, farting, and just having a good time.”
The horse trots past people and dogs before hitting a tree and rushing back to pasture, but not before farting loudly! The video uploaded to Youtube has now amassed over 32 million views!

One user commented: “Truly a cinematic masterpiece. When I read the title I doubted that the fabulous kicks, farts and runs could be packed into just 25 seconds. But this horse pulls it off so easily One of the most powerful moves in the universe. What a specimen.”
We totally agree! The animal owner continued, “Dogs and horses are good friends and play together a lot. While some viewers were concerned about the proximity of canines to such a large animal, the Yukon assured them that they were one big family. “Sven never hurt any of the dogs, they got along really well, he just felt alive today.”
According to numerous studies, there may be a connection between dogs and horses. When they play together, they can communicate by mimicking each other’s actions. Teamwork between horses and dogs has been demonstrated in hunting and farming.

The comments on the original Yukon video had us laughing like horses fart. One man jokingly wrote, “What a smart horse this horse is. He charged in with such grace and agility and deftly kicked the tree where it hurts the most: the trunk. Then turned and fled the scene. Knowing he was running out of fuel , he went all out and fired up the afterburner. The extra thrust from the rear end allowed him to get off the spot faster than he got there. Amazing and flawless performance.”
They are companion animals that love company, and as long as they are polite and well-behaved, they should be fine. Before you know it, the Yukon can upload videos of all the animals running around and honking for us all to enjoy.

I am broadly interested in how human activities influence the ability of wildlife to persist in the modified environments that we create.
Specifically, my research investigates how the configuration and composition of landscapes influence the movement and population dynamics of forest birds. Both natural and human-derived fragmenting of habitat can influence where birds settle, how they access the resources they need to survive and reproduce, and these factors in turn affect population demographics. Most recently, I have been studying the ability of individuals to move through and utilize forested areas which have been modified through timber harvest as they seek out resources for the breeding and postfledging phases. As well I am working in collaboration with Parks Canada scientists to examine in the influence of high density moose populations on forest bird communities in Gros Morne National Park. Many of my projects are conducted in collaboration or consultation with representatives of industry and government agencies, seeking to improve the management and sustainability of natural resource extraction.
